 THE BIRDS STOPPED SINGING

Written / devised by: Molly Davies
Directed / devised by: Jacqueline Rice
Dates: 7 - 17 October 2008
Partners: commissioned by Hillingdon Council
Venues: schools tour across Hillingdon Borough

Company of Angels were commissioned by Hillingdon Council to write a play in collaboration with young people from the area reflecting their responses and feelings to violence and bullying. In the light of this summer’s events in London, the young people chose to focus on knife crime and their reactions to it.

The birds stop singing, when your son dies.
Is taken from you.
Gone, and yet
He's here forever.

Developed with Year 10/11 students from schools across the borough in a 4 month consultation process. The Birds Stopped Singing toured secondary schools in the Borough of Hillingdon, playing to Years 9, 10 & 11. Each performance was followed by a post-show discussion led by the cast.

Realise the blades in my hand still.
Stare at him but still his eyes are on mine.
Man’s gotta - you know?
